Jackob Murray Tumblr
Hello my name is Jackob Murray. I have been a student at the Art Institute for two years now and I am focusing on Character Animation. Some of my Biggest inspirations come from movies such as Tarzan, Hercules, and Little Mermaid. The way the stories touch you and make you delve into the character’s development is simply fascinating. I have always found myself trying to make others feel a certain way when looking at my work. Main artists that I am inspired by are Glen Keane, Chris Sanders, and Ryan Woodward. As an assistant on the “Hipposterous” project I feel like it has helped me tremendously not only by pushing me, but it has given me an insight on how it would be to work on a larger production.
Jackob assisted with digital ink and paint on Shot 25, for both the Hippo character and smoke and fire effects including glows and lighting. He also animated and completed the ink and paint for all of shot 34.
My name is Marshall Stevens. I’m a digital painter that utilizes his skills for character, environment, and concept design. I have eclectic tastes, rot my brain out on Killer Klowns from Outer Space and X Files, and enjoy talking extensively about design choices in films, video games, and books. I always love making friends and learning about everything I can.
Marshall assisted by single taking my rough layouts and producing several background paintings and plates for BGs 1, 2, 11, 25, 34.
Shannisha Donnerson Portfolio Facebook
“Hello, my name is Shannisha; but, everyone calls me Nisha. I’m weird, I talk a lot, and my mind is filled with crazy images that I place onto paper. I love character designs; more so, breaking a character style down until I can finally get the idea or concept of the character. I love learning about animation, while being involved in the process of making an animation. My style is more cute, and girly; rather than, creepy or manly. But I’m willing to try different things, I can easily adapt to any style once I practice it enough. Researching all the variety of styles tend to help me out when doing things. But, I think that’s it for now yay! I’m gonna go draw now bye bye!”
Shannisha assisted with digital ink and paint on Shot 25, for both the Hippo character and smoke and fire effects including glows and lighting. She also animated and completed the ink and paint for all of shot 34.
My name is “Cap’n” Susan Howe and I am a rad 21 year old animator fresh out of college. I love ghosts, aliens and dead things. They are usually the focus of my personal animations, drawings, comics and storyboards. One day, I’d like to end up as a space pirate, you know if the animation thing doesn’t work out for me. My favorite part of Hipposterous, aside from the awesome parts I worked on, was the shot with the cassowary. Cassowaries are the best.
Susan assisted with digital ink and paint on Shot 25, for both the Hippo character and water and smoke and fire effects including glows and lighting. She also animated and completed the ink and paint for all of Shot 11, as well as ink and paint for Shots 09,10, 16, 23.
Stevi Dunn Tumblr
I’m Stevi, 21 years young, and I love just about everything. Especially indie films and coffee. Both of those together are perfection. I recently realized how much I love 3D modeling and UV unwrapping, and decided to start building my career and future with it. My favorite thing about working on Hipposterous was seeing it all come together as one piece and watching the production.
Stevi was originally asked to be in the internship course because she had shown an interest in digital painting and background plates. However, by the time she was able to take the course, she had decided to shift her focus to character modeling and rigging. Though not an absolute priority, I thought it might be beneficial to have some CGI versions of the main characters that could be 3D printed. She has finished the hippo, and started both Jack and Lovey.
Ashley Marie Cameron
My name is Ashley Marie Cameron and I am an animator set on changing the world. I love and am inspired by Walt Disney and I agree with him that “laughter is America’s best export.” Animation has greatly influenced my life and the lives of so many others. I want to make beautiful animations that touch and inspire the world!
Ashley worked on the inbetweens and ink and paint for Shot 31, and assisted on the ink and paint for Shot 12. She worked on one of my favorite reaction shots of Lovey.
Opal Baines Tumblr
My name is Opal Baines, but I go by several monikers depending on which galaxy you are in at the time. I’m 27 and just graduated from college (hooray). My past times include creating horrible eldritch abominations that one would summon from an ancient dusty tomb, summoning aliens from darkest reaches of space, and drawing. I love animation! ( but I tend to do more character design and stuff. oops) The whole process is just amazing and I don’t do it enough! My goal in life is to one day become the modern day female Ralph Bakshi so I can take on the title of horrible purveyor of nightmares. Its been a pleasure working on Hipposterous. I can’t wait to see it all done! God Speed!
Opal did ink and paint on Shot 12, and inbetweens, ink and paint on Shot 3. It was a multi-character shot with an odd perspective, but she handled it deftly. Opal is also a really creative and skilled character designer. Be sure to check out her sites!
Hello, and now it’s my turn to steal your attention. My name is Emily. I’m very tall, very quiet, and will never in this life be seen without wearing one of my infinite number of scarves. I’ve not only just reached my 20 birthday, but also my final year here at our college. Being in the Media Arts/Animation field for these past few years has sincerely been the most fun I’ve had in my life, and I feel nothing but excitement to be able to join this industry in the future. My heart will forever lie with 2D animation, and with Hipposterous as well! I can’t wait to see more progress made on it!
Emily did ink and paint on Shot 12, and inbetweens, ink and paint on Shot 62. Emily’s shot had both Jack and Lovey in them, and is one of the stronger short subtle acting sequences. She worked very hard to match my charts and directions.
Hello my name is Kala and I enjoy moving things. All my life I watched cartoons and Disney movies but I never thought I would ever become an animator, though this is the most fun i’ve ever had. My dream now is to become as good as my Disney predecessors or maybe even better. I mostly enjoy 2D animation and I can do 3D if necessary but to be honest I would really like to work on television shows like Gravity Falls. As long as I’m animating, I’m happy I suppose. I really enjoy working for Mr.Hill and I can’t wait to see where this career will take me.
Kala did inbetweens, ink, and paint on Shots 59, 44, 32. Her work on Shot 59 is pretty spectacular considering how difficult the keys, breakdowns, and charts that I provided were and in general all of Kala’s work has been thorough and quite lovely.
Casey was born on the north-eastern shore of North Carolina and is on a journey westward. Hoping to land a studio job, he loves anything that involves visual development. One of the few artistic people in his family, he enjoys in his free time playing video games, eating lots of food, and now that he is done with college, do it yourself crafts. A mix of awkward and sociable he’s easy to get along and work with. His passion is backgrounds and layouts for animations and hopes one day to be a part of a team that produces an Academy Award winning production.
Casey painted several background plates for the production. His turn around time was very quick and it was a pleasure to work with him and see his digital painting skills mature.
Caleb Tucker Tumblr
Hey my name is Caleb Tucker! I’ve been going to Ai Art Institute for 2 years now. I’m an animator and artist! I’ve always loved cartoons, whether they are from places like Cartoon Network or from independent animators on the Internet. I didn’t start really animating until almost a year into school. I fell in love with it, and I try to animate in programs like Photoshop as often as I can. When I’m not animating I’m playing fighting games like Street Fighter, watching Japanese horror films, or other dumb stuff!
Caleb did inbetweens, ink, and paint for Shots 48 and 64. Shot 48 has a ton of moving parts, with three characters colliding and a lot of complicated spacing and squash and stretch. It is one of the funnier scenes and Caleb was good to be trusted with it.
Amanda Zelenak Portfolio
Hello there, My name is Amanda Zelenak. I have just graduated from college with a BFA in animation. I specialize in 2d and 3d character animation and I love it! I love video games and drawing in my spare time when I am not animating. One day when I’m all grown up I would love to be a Dragon Priestess and live way up high in the mountains commanding a huge army of fire breathing beasts. That will have to wait though until I’m done with my career in animation where I hope to someday work on video games.
Amanda did inbetweens, ink, and paint on Shots 07 and 58. Both of which had their own unique challenges. She handled the acting in 07 and the broad action in 58 very well, and was a consummate hard worker.
Hey everybody. My name is Kris Tucker and from an early age, I was fascinated with art. My fascination turned into an obsession and I soaked up everything I could get my hands on … books, life drawings and classes from art teachers. By 13, I was sure this was my career of choice. I spent my teen years working and practicing, experimenting with traditional mediums. I loved graphite, water color, acrylics, pastels, charcoals and even sculpting. Anything that allowed me to express myself and be hands on. My years at the Art Institute has opened my eyes up to a whole new world of digital possibilities. I am now skilled with Photoshop, Paint Tool Sai, and Sketchbook Pro. Now that I have my BFA in Media Arts and Animation, I’m looking forward to what the world of art has to offer next!
Kris worked on several background plates alongside Casey and it was quite enjoyable to see them teaching and challenging one another during the process. Kris’s paints were very impressive and he tackled a couple of the more complicated backgrounds in terms of layers and complexity.
